The Balkans in International Relations

On Tuesday, December 17 at 5:00 pm, Nebojša Radmanović, Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina from Republika Srpska, will speak on the topic of “The Balkans in International Relations.”

The lecture is open to the public and will be held in Beck Auditorium (Building 410).

Nebojša Radmanović was sworn in as a member of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s tripartite presidency on November 6, 2006. Representing BiH’s Serb community, he and the other two members of the collective presidency were elected by direct popular vote to a four-year term. He was the first of the three to take the presidency’s eight-month rotating chairmanship. President Radmanović was reelected in 2010 and served a total of four rotations as President of Bosnia and Herzegovina between 2006-2013.

Radmanović was born on October 1, 1949, in Gracanica. He graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Belgrade. In his professional career, he served as director of the Bosanska Krajina Archives and of the Republika Srpska Archives, director of the National Theatre in Banja Luka, chairman of the executive board of the city of Banja Luka, member of the Republika Srpska Parliament and minister of administration and local self-government of Republika Srpska.

A member of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), Radmanovićwas elected to the presidency after winning 53.26% of the Bosnian Serb vote.

At the inaugural session on November 6, 2006, he outlined European integration, ethnic reconciliation, and economic revival as key goals for BiH.

“Bosnia and Herzegovina must progress. We have to become a real part of Europe,” Radmanović said. “I see the mandate that I have received as an obligation. I have a great obligation to the numerous citizens of Republika Srpska who voted for me, but also to those who didn’t. I have an obligation to every citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina. I will fulfil it.”

Radmanović is the author several expert and scientific publications and of several books.
