The Apostolic Church, which had previously declared its distance from politics and preferred covert influence over overt involvement, is now leading the protests for the first time in history. The main leader of the protests is Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, head of the Tavush Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church.
